Capsule Closet Goals

I visited a friend's home who has a capsule closet. I had never seen a capsule closet in person so I was pretty excited. When I saw my friend's closet I was not disappointed. I was amazed and totally inspired by it! She had 1 black dress with a design, 3 skirts, 3 sleeveless tops, a few regular tops, and some cardigans. She also told me she has 3 pairs of pants (a black pair, skinny jeans, and a pair with flares). She mostly had black or grey clothing items that can easily be paired with other colors. Here are some tips I learned from the visit.

Tip 1: Accessorize to make different outfits with your clothes
Tip 2: Less is more
Tip 3: Keep clothing items that you can use multiple ways

My friend said she uses the one dress she has for funerals, weddings, or to church. She simply wears a cardigan or tights to totally change the look of her black dress.

Here is an image I found on Pinterest for those who need a visual. Only a few basics and you can layer to make several different outfits.

I cut down my closet by more than half but I still have a long way to go for a capsule closet. Special thank you to my friend for sharing her tips and showing me her capsule closet!

Organizing to Change Your Mind-Set

I was able to go to a client's home to help her get started with her organizing journey. Let me just say it took about 10 hours of work and we only got to organize her tops! Even though I was organizing someone else's home, I got the same good feeling I did after I organized my own place. I have always enjoyed organizing, but there is something about organizing in one go that really changes you. Maybe because you see the before and after and the dramatic change happening right before your eyes!

"If you tidy up in one shot, rather than little by little, you can dramatically change your mind-set."

Here are some before and after pictures of W's bedroom. I will post about this transformation soon!

It was such a huge transformation that we got compliments from W's family members when they visited! The almost 10 hours of work was worth it after seeing such a drastic change with the before and after!

Go ahead and schedule a time where you can tackle your clothes or another category to organize all in one go! I promise it will change you and make you feel good!

Extreme Organizing - Meaningful Papers

For this post I am going to talk about organizing your papers that are meaningful to you. This usually would include your letters or cards from special occasions. I have kept all of my letters since I was in first grade. Almost every day my classmates and I would write letters to each other in Elementary school. There are folders and boxes full of letters still at my house in Japan, my mothers house, and my own home. That's right I was hoarding letters in three different locations. How bad was that?

As you get older it seems like you get more cards too. Especially around the holidays.
I posted about a mistake I made as far as organizing meaningful papers. One of them being that I showed my husband a box of birthday cards and other letters I was going to throw away. My husband is a very sentimental person and I did not think of this until it was too late. It is best to organize your own meaningful papers on your own and privately. Also, only organize things that belong to you and not things that belong to your mate or things that are addressed to both of you.

Take the same steps as you would with organizing your clothes. Make a pile of every single card and letter that you own. (Remember to only organize your own!) Pick up each card and letter and decide if it brings you joy (konmari method). If it does not throw it away! Now if letters and cards are something that truly brings you joy then keep all of them! The organizing process should be to keep only the things you love and use, NOT how much stuff you can get rid of.
